EU membership cannot start under current conditions
The European Parliament (EP) accepted the 2022 report prepared for Turkey. Accordingly, it was stated that Turkey's EU accession process could not be restarted "under current conditions", and it was recommended that the process to find a more "realistic" framework instead of EU membership be initiated.

The 2022 Turkey Report prepared by AP's Turkey rapporteur Nacho Sanchez Amor was accepted with 434 votes against 18 in the voting held at the AP General Assembly. 152 MPs abstained from voting. The report included criticisms on issues such as fundamental rights and the rule of law, and the perspective on Turkey's membership process was conveyed with a focus on cooperation. The amendment proposal, which included ending membership negotiations with Turkey, was rejected with 460 votes and was not included in the report.
The report reiterated the sadness felt about the February 6 earthquakes and stated that the European Union (EU) should continue to support humanitarian needs and reconstruction efforts.While the report welcomed Turkey's condemnation of the war in Ukraine and its commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, it called for 100% compliance with the EU's policy towards Russia. The report also asked Turkey to approve Sweden's NATO membership as soon as possible.The report, which includes allegations against democracy, the independence of the judiciary and the media in Turkey, as well as the rights of different ethnic and religious groups, women and LGBTI, called for compliance with all decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). In the report, Turkey was invited to make progress in complying with EU directives and laws regarding environment and climate action.
